This week, we have been learning about Mary Seacole. We believe that teaching history in a fun and engaging way is essential for sparking curiosity in our young learners. As part of our Black History Month celebrations, the children were introduced to the remarkable story of Mary Seacole, a nurse who made a significant impact during the Crimean War.

We shared Mary Seacole’s incredible life with the children in a simple, child-friendly way. She was a brave nurse who traveled from Jamaica to help soldiers during the war, never letting obstacles stop her from helping others. We showed the children a picture of Mary Seacole and explained how she made a difference by caring for people when they needed her most. Her story of courage, determination, and kindness helped the children understand that anyone, no matter where they come from, can make the world a better place.

To bring Mary Seacole’s story to life, we invited the children to paint their very own portraits of her. It was wonderful to see how engaged they were. This activity wasn’t just about painting; it was about celebrating diversity, courage, and the importance of helping others.

After the painting session, we gathered in a circle to share what we learned. The children were excited to talk about their colorful portraits, and we had some lovely conversations about being brave, helping friends, and doing good things, just like Mary Seacole did.

We are so proud of our nursery children and their enthusiasm for learning about important historical figures.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

Take a look at some of our lovely pictures as we learn through play. We have made lots of wonderful friendships and have been working so hard on our turn-taking skills, listening skills, and communication skills. In mathematics, we have been learning to count to 10, and some of us have been counting beyond 10.

Our story of the week is ‘We are going on a leaf hunt’ by Steve Metzger and we have been designing our own leaves, collecting sticks/conkers from the playground, and designing our own trees in Art. It is so lovely to see the children being more settled at school.

Thank you for your continued support.

As the months begin to get colder, I kindly request that all parents bring in a jacket or coat for their child to wear when we are outside. Please also remember to label any hats, scarves, or gloves, and it’s best to place these inside the arm of a coat or jacket to prevent them from falling out.

We have had a fabulous week in nursery! The children are really enjoying the role-play area and learning all about Autumn. We have been reading the book ‘Little Acorn’ this week and the children have enjoyed talking about what they can see. They have been discovering the many changes that take place as the months grow colder and the trees shed their leaves. We have also been working extremely hard on our communication and turn-taking skills. The children are improving greatly each day.

Thank you very much for your continued support.

As we continue to explore our half-term topic, ‘All About Me,’ the children have been learning more about themselves. They have been helping to look after babies, talking about why it is important to brush their teeth, naming their body parts, talking about where they live, and making posters about their families.

Our story of the week is ‘Owl Babies’ and we have been talking about the characters in the story. Please kindly bring in a family photo so we can add this to our display board.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

The Nursery Team

It has been so lovely to have the new nursery children join our school this September. We are excited and so happy to welcome them in and support their learning through play, singing, carpet sessions, indoor and outdoor activities. The children will be using this term to enhance their speaking/listening skills, turn taking and of course settle into their new classroom.

Please remember to bring in lots of spare clothes for your children and a water bottle. If you need assistance in getting any of these items, we are more than happy to help you.

Thank you,

The Nursery Team

From the Nursery team

It has been a fab year in Nursery! We have been busy making friends and developing our speaking and listening skills. We have had so much fun playing indoors, outdoors and exploring in our garden. The children have loved playing with playdough, making things out of junk modelling and messy play! Recently, we had a great time doing our sports day, class parties and our assembly! We know our nursery children are so ready for Reception, they are all SUPERSTARS!!! We wish them all the best going forward. Thank you to all the parents for your ongoing support. It means so much to us. We will miss all of the children from Nursery.

A polite reminder that the last day of summer term is Friday 19th July at 2pm. Have a wonderful safe, peaceful and happy holiday.

All the best,

Nursery Team
