Welcome back!

This term, our theme is “Night and Light,” and we’re excited to explore a variety of festivals, including Diwali, Christmas, and Bonfire Night. The children have had a fantastic time creating their own lanterns, cutting and sticking materials, painting bonfires, and helping to decorate our learning space.

Our story of the week is Owl Babies, and we’ve been learning all about owls and why they are nocturnal. The children are really enjoying discovering the fascinating world of these nighttime creatures!

The children have been sent home with logins and passwords for

Times Tables Rock Stars – Times Tables Rock Stars

Please can you encourage them to use these regularly as it will really help them with their development in maths.

Please let us know if there are any problems.

In Year 2 we looked at the positive impact Marcus Rashford has had on his local community and Britain as a whole.

They produced beautiful sketches, collages and fact files about him.

Take a look!

As part of our learning about the Romans, Year 4 have been learning about the different types of catapults used during this period. Using a plastic spoon, elastic bands and lollipop sticks, we designed and built a small, working catapult in pairs. We then had a lot of fun testing our catapults!

Wow! What a busy half term it has been. The children have settled in well and have been getting used to our daily routines. They are making friends and have been accessing all areas of the indoor and outdoor learning environment. It has been a pleasure to see them grow in confidence and embrace their learning. This week, we had a very special visitor, who is an author from Jamaica! She shared her story about Anansi the Spider and then taught the children some songs. Here are a couple of photographs;

Next half term, our topic is ‘Changes’. We shall be exploring the seasons of Autumn and Winter and learning about ‘hibernation’. The children will be ‘going on a bear hunt’ and learning about ‘Stick Man’. We invite you over half term to go on a leaf hunt with your child and collect different kinds of leaves. We would love to see your collections after the half term holiday!

Please keep on reading over the holidays. Maybe you can visit one of the many libraries throughout Southwark!

Here are some important dates for your diaries coming up after half term;

We have had a fabulous start to the term and the children have settled down really well. The children have really enjoyed learning about being kind to other people and why we came in wearing red on Friday. We have also really enjoyed using our book corner to read books to do with our interest and encourage reading for pleasure. The children have also enjoyed using our new baby corner to develop skills for empathy. We hope you have a lovely week off with your child. The children will be returning to school on Monday 4th November 2024.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

Sometimes the students have the chance to become the experts in Year 2. Below is an image of one of the pupils doing some teaching input on what a noun is. The class often respond very positively when learning from their peers and have a lot of fun in the process! I wonder if this is a future teacher in the making?
